Heroes & How Brain Tumors Seem To Make Them

By Rob Sutter

People who have connections to brain tumors in some form of another are ones that have my utmost respect. They are afflicted with these conditions and they are able to help others who are suffering as well in a great showing of camaraderie. For all that they go through, I'd like to consider them the truest form of heroes. In fact, heroes in combination with this ailment are close and they are people that I'm sure most people wouldn't have thought about beforehand.

One hero whose connection to this disease is quite strong is known to the masses as the Hulk. You may be sitting, wondering what exactly the connection therein is, but there's certainly a correlation to be had. However, you have to look far deeper than the green-tinted outside of the behemoth with anger issues. The Hulk is played by Mark Ruffalo in "The Avengers" and this particular actor has had a deep connection to this ailment and it is still one that he carries with him today.

In 2002, Ruffalo was diagnosed with a troubling type of brain tumors known as an acoustic neuroma. Ruffalo's life was not only impacted personally but career-wise as well, since the tumor left him in a bout of partial facial paralysis. Now that the tumor has fortunately been treated, I think he could use the success of his career to help organizations working to raise awareness and find cures for the condition. Organizations like V-A-B-C could benefit from a big actor such as him to speak on behalf of them.

Ruffalo may not be the only actor in the world who encounters trials with this condition but he may be the prime example if one needed it in this day and age. Not only do kids and young people know him from "The Avengers" but his other films like "You Can Count On Me" are ones that non-superhero fans can look to as well. To say the least, his appeal to people is one that is widespread. When you consider this, is there any wonder as to why he wouldn't be ideal for a company to hire on?

I believe that brain cancer awareness is just as strong as the people who back it up. If you ask me, the more noteworthy names that are tethered to the cause, the more powerful the cause in question proves itself to be. Ruffalo may just be one of the strongest names to utilize when it comes to this cause. Not only is his popularity at a high level right now but I have a good feeling that he would be the one to bring in new supporters as well.
